Martin O’Neill has responded to the Green Brigade’s protest against the Celtic board, offering his thoughts on the ongoing tension

The Green Brigade continued their anti-board protests at Hampden Park on Saturday, with the ultras group unveiling banners aimed at the Celtic hierarchy during the Scottish Cup Final victory over Dunfermline.

Their actions came despite Celtic securing silverware, underlining that off-pitch frustrations remain unresolved even as success was achieved on the field. The protests had noticeably eased in the final weeks of the Premiership season, especially as Celtic mounted an unlikely title push.

During that period, supporter groups had largely agreed to a temporary truce, believing unity was needed as Martin O’Neill attempted to steer the team back into contention. However, that sense of calm now appears to have broken down once again.

Earlier in the season, the Green Brigade were handed a lengthy ban amid ongoing disputes with the club, while demonstrations inside and outside Celtic Park have become a regular feature throughout the campaign.

Alongside this, the “Not Another Penny” campaign also remains active, with supporters continuing to express dissatisfaction as the club begins rolling out next season’s kits and commercial products.

Despite the tensions, O’Neill managed to steady a fractured environment and guide Celtic to both the league title and Scottish Cup success. Speaking after the Hampden victory, the interim manager said he hopes lessons will be learned within the club moving forward.

He suggested the season should serve as a reminder of the importance of anticipating challenges, warning that complacency can develop when issues are not addressed early enough.

O’Neill also pointed to the strength of rivals such as Hearts and Rangers, stressing that Celtic will face serious competition again next season and must prepare accordingly both on and off the pitch.

With a crucial summer ahead, there is growing expectation that Celtic will need to show they have learned from previous transfer windows and make improvements to maintain their momentum.
