Rangers loanee leaves touching farewell message as Ibrox chapter comes to an end
Jayden Meghoma has officially brought his time at Rangers F.C. to an emotional close after completing his season-long loan spell and returning to parent club Brentford F.C..
The teenage left-back, who arrived at Ibrox from Brentford last summer, has now headed back to West London following a campaign that offered plenty of valuable experience and first-team football.

Despite being only 19 years old, Meghoma became an important figure for Rangers throughout much of the season. The young defender made 44 appearances in all competitions and, for a significant stretch of the campaign, found himself as the club’s only recognised senior left-back option.
Signed during the reign of former manager Russell Martin in August, Meghoma was trusted heavily in the early months of the season and responded with encouraging performances. Over the course of his spell in Glasgow, he contributed one goal and six assists, gaining invaluable minutes at senior level.
His role in the side slightly changed midway through the season following the arrival of Tuur Rommens from Westerlo in January, a move made by head coach Danny Röhl to strengthen competition at left-back.
Although Meghoma eventually lost his regular starting place as the campaign progressed, the loan is widely viewed as a beneficial move for all parties. Brentford’s decision to send the youngster out on loan appears to have paid off, allowing him to gain consistent first-team experience in a demanding environment.
As he prepared to leave Ibrox and return south, Meghoma took time to thank everyone connected to Rangers in an emotional message shared on social media.
Reflecting on his season in Glasgow, the defender described it as an honour to represent the club and expressed gratitude to teammates, coaches, staff and supporters for their backing.
“It’s been a privilege to wear this badge,” Meghoma wrote. “Thank you to my teammates, staff and especially the fans for the support this season. Rangers is a special club and one I’ll always be thankful to have represented. Wishing everyone all the best moving forward.”
While there were areas of his game that still required development — particularly defensively — Meghoma showed flashes of exciting potential going forward. His attacking quality was often evident, and one standout moment came in Rangers’ thrilling 2-2 draw away to Dundee United F.C. in December, when he scored a stunning long-range effort that many supporters considered among the club’s best goals of the season.
The young full-back also proved dangerous from set-piece situations and demonstrated glimpses of the quality that convinced Rangers to bring him north in the first place.
Meghoma now becomes one of several temporary signings to leave Ibrox this summer, joining players such as Andreas Skov Olsen, Derek Cornelius, Max Aarons, Nasser Djiga and Mikey Moore in returning to their parent clubs.
Among those departures, Moore’s exit could yet prove temporary, with Röhl previously admitting he would do everything possible to try and secure another deal for the highly-rated youngster from Tottenham Hotspur F.C..
Meanwhile, Rangers are also saying goodbye to academy products Leon King and Kieran Wright, both of whom recently departed after spending 17 years associated with the club.
With chairman Andrew Cavenagh and Röhl both acknowledging the need for significant changes, Rangers are expected to undergo a major rebuild this summer as preparations begin for a stronger title challenge next season.
