After Sheffield Wednesday takeover, shock news emerges regarding Dejphon Chansiri
The ownership crisis at Sheffield Wednesday has finally come to an end, with the club confirming on Saturday that the consortium led by David Storch and Arise Capital Partners has completed its takeover.
The Owls were placed into administration in late October and were initially hit with a 12-point deduction, which was later increased to 18 points due to the financial mismanagement under former owner Dejphon Chansiri.

Chansiri, who acquired the club in 2014, saw his tenure increasingly defined by financial instability and controversy, leaving the club in severe difficulty before the eventual collapse into administration.
After months of uncertainty, supporters finally received positive news ahead of the clash with West Brom, as the takeover was officially completed. The deal brings much-needed stability and ensures Wednesday will not begin next season on a further points deficit, instead allowing for a rebuild in League One.
Late attempts to block the takeover
However, reports have since suggested that Chansiri attempted to delay or derail the deal even in its final stages. According to journalist Alan Nixon, the former owner pushed for the process to be restarted entirely, claiming another interested party was prepared to offer a higher price for the club.
Despite this, administrators were unable to restart negotiations due to the club’s precarious financial situation, with Wednesday close to running out of operational stability. Chansiri is also said to have refused to contribute further funding during the process.
The report adds that he declined to agree a settlement, although discussions over creditor arrangements remain ongoing. A proposed repayment structure of 25p in the pound is reportedly no longer part of the agreement.
Relief for supporters
Further complications around loans secured against Hillsborough Stadium have also been resolved, with additional financial arrangements still being reviewed.
For supporters, however, the key outcome is clear: the takeover has gone through despite late resistance, ending years of instability and opening the door to a fresh start under new ownership.
Many fans will be relieved that Chansiri’s attempts did not derail the process, as the club now prepares to move forward into a new era.
