Wrexham Make Leeds United Star Their Top Transfer Target
Wrexham Target Leeds Forward Lukas Nmecha as Transfer Deadline Approaches
Leeds United confirmed Joel Piroe’s departure on Wednesday, with the striker joining West Ham on loan. The deal includes an obligation for the Hammers to make the move permanent if they secure promotion back to the Premier League this season.
Piroe’s exit gives Leeds the opportunity to strengthen their attacking options, with another striker already high on their summer recruitment agenda.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin enjoyed a productive campaign last season, scoring 14 Premier League goals, but Leeds will be wary of relying solely on the former Everton forward because of his previous injury problems.
While Leeds are looking to add another striker, they could also face the prospect of losing another member of their attacking department before the transfer window closes.
Wrexham are reportedly preparing another ambitious move for a Leeds player as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the remainder of their Championship campaign.
According to the Daily Mail, Wrexham have expressed an interest in signing Lukas Nmecha before the transfer deadline.
Nmecha joined Leeds on a free transfer last summer and made 37 appearances during his first season at Elland Road, scoring seven goals. However, the 27-year-old now finds himself behind Calvert-Lewin in Daniel Farke’s attacking pecking order.
Should Leeds bring in another forward, Nmecha could potentially drop even further down the hierarchy, making a move to Wrexham an attractive proposition.
Wrexham could offer him the opportunity to become their leading striker and play regularly in the Championship. The major question is whether Nmecha would be willing to leave Premier League football in exchange for guaranteed first-team opportunities in the second tier.
Leeds should resist Wrexham’s interest in Nmecha
Although Leeds are already planning to bring in another striker following Piroe’s departure, allowing Nmecha to leave as well could create an unnecessary problem.
Even if the Whites manage to sign another forward before the window closes, losing Nmecha would reduce the depth available to Farke. His ability to provide a physical presence and contribute from the bench gives Leeds another option when games require a different approach.
The German-born forward also provides useful competition within the squad and allows Farke to maintain his preferred tactical setup when Calvert-Lewin is unavailable.
If Nmecha does depart, Leeds could suddenly find themselves needing to sign two strikers rather than one during the final days of the transfer window.
With plenty of work still to be completed before the deadline, losing another forward would be an avoidable complication for Leeds. Keeping Nmecha could therefore prove important as they prepare for the demands of the new Premier League season.
