With this weekend’s Premier Sports Cup quarter-final set to bring another Old Firm showdown, Rangers supporters can look back on one of the most memorable finals between the two sides in 2011 as part of the latest Game Changersfeature.

The episode will be released on RangersTV this evening and revisits Rangers’ dramatic 2011 League Cup final triumph, when Nikica Jelavić struck in extra time to secure the trophy for the Gers.

The game was locked at 1-1 during extra time at Hampden when Vladimir Weiss spotted an opportunity to take Celtic by surprise. Rather than allowing the defence to reset, he immediately delivered a free-kick into the path of Jelavić, who produced a decisive finish.

The feature examines Weiss’ awareness and speed of thought, Jelavić’s composure in front of goal and the single sequence that ultimately decided the final.

The win was particularly meaningful for Walter Smith, as it provided the Rangers manager with a memorable victory in his final cup final at Hampden before he left the role at the conclusion of the 2010/11 campaign.

Former Rangers midfielder Ian Durrant also reflects on the iconic moment, describing the feeling of watching Jelavić strike the winning shot and the emotional scenes that followed.

The latest Game Changers episode offers supporters the chance to revisit a famous Old Firm occasion and see how a split-second decision helped Rangers claim silverware.
