Tonda Eckert Prepared to Offload Six Southampton Players
Southampton Could Sanction Six More Departures Before Transfer Deadline
Southampton have made relatively few additions since the summer transfer window opened, but the club could still see significant movement in the opposite direction before the deadline.
The Saints have made Cyle Larin and Daniel Peretz permanent members of the squad after both players spent last season on loan at St Mary’s. Lewis Dobbin and George Long have also joined, while Divin Mubama has arrived on a temporary deal from Manchester City.
With the transfer window remaining open until September 1, Southampton still have time to reshape their squad. Shea Charles has been the most notable departure so far, but further exits could follow.
According to reports from the Daily Echo, six players could be available for transfer before the deadline.
Gavin Bazunu
Gavin Bazunu is attracting attention from several clubs, with Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb reportedly among those interested in signing the goalkeeper.
The Republic of Ireland international has struggled to establish himself in recent seasons, with injuries limiting his opportunities. His position at Southampton has also weakened following the arrival of Peretz.
With Bazunu entering the final year of his contract, Southampton could decide that this summer represents the right time to cash in rather than risk losing him for nothing.
Aaron Ramsdale
Aaron Ramsdale’s future is another major talking point following Peretz’s emergence as Southampton’s preferred goalkeeper.
The former Arsenal shot-stopper is reportedly available for transfer, although his next destination remains uncertain. Ramsdale spent the previous campaign on loan at Newcastle United, making 12 Premier League appearances.
With Peretz seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order, a permanent departure could now be on the cards.
Yuki Sugawara
Yuki Sugawara also spent last season away from Southampton, joining Werder Bremen following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
However, the Japanese defender has returned to a squad in which his role appears limited. Southampton are reportedly prepared to listen to offers for him and could sanction his departure before the September 1 deadline.
Damion Downs
Damion Downs arrived at Southampton last summer but struggled to make a significant impact during his first months at the club.
The forward subsequently joined Hamburg on loan during the January transfer window before returning to St Mary’s this summer. Southampton are now reportedly looking to sell the striker as they attempt to reduce the size of their squad.
Cameron Archer
Cameron Archer has also been linked with a move away from Southampton during the current transfer window.
West Bromwich Albion and Wrexham have reportedly shown an interest in the striker, while Southampton are believed to be willing to consider offers for him.
Archer did feature during the club’s pre-season preparations, but he was left on the bench without being used as Southampton began their new Championship campaign with a 2-1 defeat against Watford.
His underlying numbers from the 2025/26 campaign suggest he remained capable of contributing in front of goal, recording 0.36 non-penalty goals and 0.50 expected goals per 90 minutes.
Ben Brereton Diaz
Ben Brereton Diaz is the sixth player whose Southampton future could be decided before the transfer window closes.
The Chile international is reportedly attracting interest from Derby County, where he spent last season on loan.
Southampton are understood to be open to offers for the forward, who was not included in the squad for the opening-day defeat against Watford.
With the Saints continuing to reshape their squad under Tonda Eckert, all six players could potentially leave before the September 1 deadline if suitable offers arrive.
