Tom Cleverley receives Plymouth Argyle future update amid growing scrutiny
Plymouth Argyle claim made on Tom Cleverley’s future amid recent struggles
Tom Cleverley is unlikely to leave Plymouth Argyle anytime soon despite speculation linking him with a move elsewhere, according to the club’s fan pundit, as the Pilgrims look to recover from a disappointing run of results.
Cleverley was previously linked with Preston North End following Paul Heckingbottom’s departure, with reports suggesting the former Manchester United midfielder was among the candidates considered for the vacant managerial position.

However, Preston ultimately turned to Graham Alexander, who returned to the club after impressing at Bradford City, leaving Cleverley to continue his work at Home Park.
There had been optimism that the Plymouth boss could build on the club’s strong start to the season and guide them towards promotion. Recent results, however, have raised concerns about their progress.
Despite the difficult spell, the belief among some supporters is that Cleverley will remain in charge and attempt to turn things around rather than pursue another opportunity.
Tom Cleverley tipped to remain at Plymouth Argyle
Plymouth’s recent performances have been disappointing, with consecutive defeats against Huddersfield Town and Stevenage adding to the pressure on the team.
A 2-0 home loss to Huddersfield was followed by a 3-0 defeat away to Stevenage, leaving the Pilgrims needing a response as they continue their League One campaign.
Although those results have disrupted their momentum, Plymouth remain fifth in the table and within reach of the leading sides.
Speaking about Cleverley’s future, fan pundit Harry believes the manager must first concentrate on improving results before considering any potential move to a Championship club.
He said: “In terms of Championship moves and potentially going and leaving for a bigger club in the future; first of all, I think Tom Cleverley needs to sort out his own job at the moment.
“We are in quite a bad run of form. Three in four are losses so I think that is something that really need to be sorted out before he can even consider any Championship jobs.”
Harry also suggested that even if Plymouth manage to regain their form by January, he would be surprised if Cleverley decided to leave.
The fan pundit pointed to the manager’s previous comments about his long-term ambitions at Argyle, as well as the importance of stability following several managerial changes in recent years.
He added: “Let’s say hypothetically we get to January and he has stabled the ship, I can’t see him leaving, to be honest.
“He’s said on multiple occasions that he thinking about Argyle for the long-term and he seems like a very loyal guy.
“So, potentially you could say that maybe he would want to go back up north to live with his family but also he feels that Plymouth feels like home.
“I think it would probably be less likely and he needs the stability to improve as a manager and it works well because we need stability after losing so many managers in recent years.”
For now, the focus remains on getting Plymouth back to winning ways. With the club still within reach of the top positions in League One, a return to form could help ease concerns about Cleverley’s position and allow him to continue building for the future at Home Park.
