Simon Jordan criticises English Football League and Dejphon Chansiri over potential Sheffield Wednesday F.C. points deduction
Simon Jordan has strongly criticised the English Football League and former Sheffield Wednesday F.C. owner Dejphon Chansiri over the potential points deduction facing the club.
Wednesday could begin next season in League One with a 15-point penalty after a proposed takeover led by David Storchfailed to meet the requirement that unsecured creditors receive 25p in the pound.

While the EFL insists this is a firm rule, critics argue it should be treated as guidance rather than a strict regulation.
Jordan questioned the league’s stance, suggesting they lack the willingness to acknowledge flaws in their own system. He revealed that he previously considered investing in the club alongside businessman Ryan Howsam but withdrew due to the financial implications tied to the 25p rule.
The proposed new ownership group has indicated it will compensate local creditors but not Chansiri, who is owed a significant sum following the club’s administration. Attempts to challenge the EFL’s position through arbitration have reportedly been rejected.
Jordan also argued that the current rules place an unfair burden on clubs already struggling in administration, claiming they hinder recovery rather than support rebuilding efforts. He believes the system needs major reform to prevent further financial strain on clubs trying to stabilise.
The situation could still change if Chansiri chooses to withdraw his claim, which would remove the threat of a points deduction. However, he has yet to do so, and Jordan was highly critical of his role in the club’s financial troubles.
