Peter Grant responds after Scott Brown’s brutal Celtic criticism

Peter Grant has broken his silence after Scott Brown delivered a scathing assessment of the former Celtic coach during a recent interview.

Speaking on the Open Goal podcast, Brown reflected on Tony Mowbray’s spell in charge of Celtic and admitted he would have left the club had Mowbray and Grant remained at the helm.

“I think if Tony and Peter Grant were still there, I’d have been away straight away,” Brown said.

The former Celtic captain then made his feelings towards Grant crystal clear.

“I had no time for Peter Grant whatsoever.”

When asked to elaborate, Brown added:

“Man management. Personal. Personality? Zero.

“Tony, I got on alright. But Peter Grant, no.”

The comments generated plenty of debate among Celtic supporters, and Grant has now responded.

Appearing on The Go Radio Football Show, the former midfielder refused to be drawn into a war of words, insisting Brown is entitled to his opinion.

“Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. I’d never tell anyone what to say or what they think of me,” Grant said.

“I’ve got a hell of a lot of friends who would say the opposite, but that’s life. We move on from it.”

Grant admitted he could barely remember the period Brown was referring to.

“I’m trying to think when it was. It was when I was at Celtic, so 10 or 15 years ago or something? I’ve not got that memory, obviously he does.”

The 62-year-old then suggested there are only a handful of opinions that would truly affect him.

“It doesn’t concern me in the least. If it was Roy Aitken, Danny McGrain, Paul McStay or the great Tommy Burns, it would maybe concern me.

“I’ve never, ever been critical of somebody who’s criticised me. That’s life, I’ve had plenty of criticism. One thing is, I will sleep well in my bed tonight. That’s for sure.”

Rather than escalating the situation, Grant chose to dismiss the criticism and move on.

Brown made his stance unmistakably clear, but Grant had little interest in revisiting events from more than a decade ago. Instead, he stressed that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and indicated the remarks would not affect him.

With only Brown having publicly explained what happened behind the scenes during Mowbray’s reign, the full story remains unknown. Grant has opted not to offer a competing version of events, making it clear he sees no value in reopening old wounds.
