Ryan Reynolds pays emotional tribute after death of close friend and colleague

Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds has shared a heartbreaking tribute following the death of his close friend and Maximum Effort colleague Pierce Thiot at the age of 40.

The Hollywood actor described Thiot as an exceptionally creative and kind person whose absence would be deeply felt at the company.

Reynolds said it was “impossible to imagine the world, let alone our company” without Thiot, who had been part of Maximum Effort for almost five years.

“He was beloved,” Reynolds said. “We adored and admired Pierce. He was generous with his time and love. He was funny as hell. He gave the best hugs.”

Thiot died at his home in Orem, Utah, after suffering a pulmonary embolism.

During his career, Thiot worked on major campaigns for international brands including Apple, Nike, Gatorade and Coca-Cola. He was also behind the popular “Will It Beard?” online series, which became a viral success.

After joining Maximum Effort, Thiot played an important role in a number of high-profile campaigns and creative projects. His work included campaigns for DoorDash, L’Oréal and Mint Mobile, alongside projects connected to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Coyote vs. Acme.

Paying further tribute to his colleague, Reynolds said: “Pierce was a shining light of creativity, kindness and hard work.

“It is impossible to imagine the world, let alone our company, without him.”

The actor also offered his support to Thiot’s family as they deal with the devastating loss.

“Our hearts and efforts will forever be with his wife Stacy, his children Adelaide and Jackson and his work partner of over a decade Kathleen Swanson,” Reynolds said.

Reynolds has become an increasingly familiar figure in north Wales since taking ownership of Wrexham alongside fellow actor Rob McElhenney in 2021.

Their involvement has transformed Wrexham’s international profile, with the club enjoying significant progress both on and off the pitch under their ownership.
