Rangers brace for Minsu Kim bids as January transfer chances emerge
Rangers prepare for Minsu Kim transfer interest as January exit chances emerge
Rangers are keen to retain Minsu Kim but are preparing for the possibility of interest from clubs across Europe’s major leagues, according to reports from Football Insider.
The South Korean winger has made an impressive start to life at Ibrox following his summer move from Girona, quickly establishing himself as an important part of Derek McInnes’ plans.
Rangers paid £8.5million to secure the 20-year-old’s signature, and his performances have offered encouragement as the club look to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title.
However, Kim’s early impact has already sparked speculation about a possible departure when the January transfer window opens.
According to Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Rangers have no intention of allowing the youngster to leave midway through the campaign. Nevertheless, clubs operating in more prominent European leagues could test their resolve with offers in the new year.
Despite becoming a regular starter under McInnes, Kim is still waiting to register his first goal contribution for the Gers. His consistent involvement in the starting XI, however, reflects the impression he has made since arriving in Glasgow.
Rangers determined to keep Minsu Kim amid potential January bids
Kim’s move to Scotland followed an encouraging loan spell with FC Andorra in Spain’s second tier, where he recorded 10 goal contributions across 40 appearances.
He has continued to make progress at Rangers and could play an important role in the club’s pursuit of domestic silverware this season.
While his performances may attract attention from elsewhere, Rangers are understood to have little appetite for losing the winger just months after bringing him to Ibrox.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, the reporter said: “I don’t think they’re prepared to let him go, not just yet. He has just arrived at the club and is having a good impact. Rangers will be delighted with him and what he’s done so far up in Glasgow as well.
“They won’t be considering losing Minsu Kim any time soon, but when you do impress and can attract interest, it’s going to be this situation where maybe some Rangers players will get offers from other bigger clubs in bigger leagues, and then it might be hard to keep hold of them.”
The comments suggest that while Rangers intend to keep Kim, the situation could become more complicated if clubs from stronger leagues make significant moves for his signature.
For now, the winger remains part of McInnes’ plans as Rangers continue their domestic campaign.
Rangers scout League One prospect ahead of January window
Meanwhile, Rangers are already assessing potential additions ahead of the January transfer window as McInnes considers how to strengthen his squad for the title race.
Football Insider reports that Rangers scouts watched Doncaster Rovers youngster Bayley McCann during the League One side’s midweek meeting with Stockport County.
The 20-year-old midfielder plays under his father, Grant McCann, at Doncaster and has contributed two assists in seven appearances in England’s third tier this season.
McCann is also a regular member of Northern Ireland’s under-21 setup, making him a young prospect who could attract further attention as the transfer window approaches.
Rangers’ interest in emerging talent suggests that recruitment planning is already underway, even as the club look to hold on to key players such as Kim.
With January approaching, McInnes could face decisions at both ends of the transfer market as Rangers attempt to strengthen their title challenge without losing one of their promising summer recruits.
