Police make final decision on Krystian Bielik after Fratton Park clash with Portsmouth fan

Police have brought their investigation into an alleged incident involving Cardiff City defender Krystian Bielik and a Portsmouth supporter at Fratton Park to a close.

Bielik became involved in an incident with a young Pompey fan in the South Stand during Cardiff’s visit to Fratton Park on September 5. The defender had gone towards the stand while trying to retrieve the ball during the match.

The incident occurred in the 72nd minute and was not punished by referee Ben Speedie. The Portsmouth supporter was subsequently escorted from the stadium by match-day stewards.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has now confirmed that the matter has been resolved through an out-of-court disposal agreed between Bielik and the supporter.

As part of the resolution, Bielik has apologised to the Portsmouth fan. Police have confirmed that the investigation is now closed and no further action will be taken.

A statement from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary said that officers had spoken with the complainant and reviewed the available evidence before reaching the resolution.

The force confirmed that all parties agreed to the out-of-court disposal and that an apology had been given by the Cardiff player.

Portsmouth had previously issued a statement shortly after the incident, confirming that the club was aware of concerns surrounding the alleged confrontation between the young supporter and an opposition player.

The club said at the time that the matter was being treated as a safeguarding issue and was under investigation by both Portsmouth and the police, meaning it could not comment further on the circumstances.

Portsmouth also urged supporters to avoid speculation over claims circulating on social media while the enquiries were ongoing.

The club stressed that protecting the welfare and safeguarding of young people remained a key priority.
