Martin O’Neill airport sighting sends Celtic rumour mill into overdrive

The wait for Celtic’s next managerial announcement could soon be coming to an end after Martin O’Neill was reportedly spotted at Glasgow Airport on Tuesday, further fuelling speculation over his future at Parkhead.

The veteran boss has been heavily linked with the permanent role after reports suggested he had agreed a one-year contract, with the option of a further 12 months, following his dramatic turnaround of Celtic’s season.

O’Neill, 74, stepped in during a turbulent campaign and ultimately delivered a domestic double, guiding the Hoops to both the Premiership title and Scottish Cup after twice taking charge on an interim basis.

Since the departure of Wilfried Nancy, Celtic have been without a permanent manager, though O’Neill quickly emerged as the frontrunner after restoring stability and success.

The club did explore alternative options, including talks with Robbie Keane, but discussions failed to progress, leaving the path increasingly clear for O’Neill to remain in charge.

Momentum behind his return has continued to grow in recent days, with former Celtic figures Paul Lambert and Neil Lennon among those publicly endorsing the move.

Reports have also indicated O’Neill is already involved in planning for the summer transfer window and considering tactical adjustments ahead of next season.

With Champions League qualifiers looming in August and uncertainty surrounding several first-team stars, Celtic are keen to finalise their managerial situation quickly.

Daizen Maeda is still expected to attract strong transfer interest, while Arne Engels and Benjamin Nygren have also been linked with potential exits as a crucial summer begins to take shape at Parkhead.
