Latest Mikey Johnston and Tammer Bany injury news ahead of Newcastle vs West Brom
West Brom are waiting for further medical assessments to determine the seriousness of Mikey Johnston’s latest ankle setback, with the winger ruled out of this week’s two away fixtures.
Johnston has spent the summer recovering from the fractured ankle he suffered at Oxford in February during James Morrison’s first game as caretaker boss. He returned to action by playing 30 minutes in Albion’s opening EFL Cup win at Rotherham, but was an unused substitute against Norwich before missing Sunday’s victory over Burnley.

The full extent of the setback is still unknown, but Morrison confirmed that the Republic of Ireland international will not feature against Newcastle in Wednesday’s cup tie or in Saturday’s Championship meeting with Middlesbrough.
“Mikey Johnston is out and he’ll continue to be assessed,” Morrison said. “He’ll miss the Middlesbrough game too.”
There is more positive news regarding Tammer Bany, with the forward expected to be included in West Brom’s 20-man squad for the trip to St James’ Park.
The Jordan international has been recovering from a hamstring injury suffered on the final day of last season against Sheffield Wednesday, which also ended his hopes of making the World Cup squad.
Bany has spent the summer working his way back to fitness, and Morrison is keen to carefully manage his return while finding opportunities to increase his playing time.
“He’s been progressing nicely,” Morrison confirmed. “He’ll be involved in the squad.
“Hopefully he can get on the pitch. We have to find the right time to get him games, and we’ve got a plan for him.”
