James Maddison sends heartfelt message to Manor Solomon after West Ham move

James Maddison has wished Manor Solomon well after the winger completed his move from Tottenham Hotspur to West Ham United.

The Hammers have agreed an initial £5 million deal for the 27-year-old, with the fee potentially rising to £7 million depending on add-ons. Solomon has signed a three-year contract at the London Stadium as Nuno Espirito Santo continues to strengthen his attacking options.

The transfer represents West Ham’s first significant permanent transfer fee paid for a player this summer, with Solomon becoming another attacking option for the club as they target an immediate return to the Premier League.

Following the announcement, Maddison took to social media to send a message to his former Tottenham teammate.

The England midfielder spent three years alongside Solomon in North London after both players arrived at Spurs in 2023. Although injuries, loan spells and other circumstances meant they rarely shared the pitch, Maddison clearly holds his former teammate in high regard.

Maddison described Solomon as one of the nicest people he has met and also praised his qualities as a footballer, wishing him the very best for the next chapter of his career.

Solomon’s time at Tottenham was far from straightforward. After joining from Shakhtar Donetsk, he made only six first-team appearances for Spurs across three years and spent periods away from the club on loan.

His temporary spells included time with Villarreal, Leeds United and Fiorentina, limiting the opportunity for him to establish himself in Tottenham’s first-team plans.

Solomon and Maddison managed just five appearances together for Spurs, but that did little to prevent the midfielder from offering his support as his former teammate begins a new chapter in east London.

For West Ham, the signing represents an opportunity to get more from a player who has yet to consistently show his best form in England.

At 27, Solomon is entering an important stage of his career, and the Hammers will hope his experience and attacking ability can make a major difference as they chase promotion.

West Ham are not expected to stop there. The club continue to explore further attacking additions, with AZ Alkmaar forward Troy Parrott among the players reportedly being considered. Former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has also been linked with a possible move to east London as a free agent.

With Taty Castellanos, Jarrod Bowen and now Solomon among their attacking options, Nuno still appears keen to add further firepower before the transfer window closes.

West Ham’s summer business could therefore have plenty more twists to come as they look to build a squad capable of securing an immediate return to the top flight.
