How Celtic FC’s transfer errors could cost them the title
Celtic’s transfer struggles could be costing them the title
Celtic FC may already be paying the price for a disappointing transfer strategy, with recruitment issues emerging as a key factor in their inconsistent season.
Despite arrivals such as Joel Mvuka and Michel-Ange Balikwisha, few new signings have made the expected impact, leaving the squad heavily reliant on its core players.

Former Hoops defender Charlie Mulgrew believes that lack of quality additions has played a major role in the team’s struggles. Speaking on Open Goal, he pointed out that key figures like Callum McGregor and Alistair Johnston have not received the support they need, particularly during difficult periods such as injuries and dips in form.
Mulgrew also stressed that players like Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda would benefit from stronger competition and added quality—something he feels has been missing.
A number of summer signings, including Shin Yamada, Hayato Inamura, and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, have struggled for game time or failed to make a lasting impression, raising further questions about the club’s recruitment approach.
Looking ahead, changes could be on the horizon. With Martin O’Neill expected to step away and a new managerial direction likely, there are plans to improve the club’s scouting and transfer structure. The focus will be on building a more effective system capable of delivering players who can genuinely strengthen the squad.
For Celtic, the upcoming transfer window could be decisive. If they are to return to their best, getting recruitment right will be essential.
