Fresh update emerges after incident involving Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday
New statement released after Huddersfield Town vs Sheffield Wednesday controversy
The fallout from Huddersfield Town’s dramatic Yorkshire derby against Sheffield Wednesday continues, with a fresh development emerging nearly two weeks after the sides shared the points at the Accu Stadium.
Huddersfield appeared to be heading towards victory after second-half goals from Joe Taylor and Derensili Sanches Fernandes gave Martin Drury’s side a two-goal advantage.

However, the closing stages produced a dramatic twist. Ibane Bowat’s own goal in the 88th minute gave Sheffield Wednesday hope before Jamal Lowe converted a controversial penalty in the 98th minute to secure a 2-2 draw for Henrik Pedersen’s team.
Much of the post-match debate centred on the penalty decision and the circumstances surrounding the referee’s change of mind.
Referee Ed Duckworth initially awarded Sheffield Wednesday a corner after Huddersfield goalkeeper Matty Young pushed Liam Cooper’s header around the post. Following discussions with his fellow officials, however, Duckworth changed his decision and awarded a penalty, ruling that Marcus Harness had kicked Cooper in the head.
Pedersen subsequently confirmed that members of his coaching staff had spoken with the fourth official about the incident before the decision was reversed. The situation prompted speculation among Huddersfield supporters on social media, with some questioning whether the visiting coaching staff had used a replay of the incident to influence the officials.
The controversy continued after the final whistle, with the Football Association announcing on October 15 that Huddersfield captain Ryan Ledson had been charged with misconduct.
Ledson, who missed the match through injury, was alleged to have used abusive or insulting language towards match officials in the tunnel area at half-time and again after the game.
The charge generated further frustration among Huddersfield supporters, particularly given the contentious circumstances surrounding Sheffield Wednesday’s late equaliser.
Now, with the dispute continuing to attract attention, a new statement has added another development to the situation.
