Middlesbrough face Mikey Moore setback as transfer preference emerges

Middlesbrough could be set for disappointment in their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur youngster Mikey Moore, with fresh reports suggesting the winger has other priorities for the next step in his career.

Boro are reshaping their squad ahead of another Championship promotion push after falling short last season. Kim Hellberg’s side narrowly missed automatic promotion before eventually losing to Hull City in the play-off final following Southampton’s expulsion from the competition.

Despite losing key players Dael Fry and Hayden Hackney earlier this summer, Middlesbrough have responded by strengthening their squad with the arrivals of Sebastian Berhalter, Myles Peart-Harris, Kyle Joseph and Will Lankshear, while a deal for Columbus Crew defender Max Arfsten is also believed to be close.

The club are now looking to add further quality, with Tottenham winger Moore among the players on their shortlist.

The 18-year-old enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Rangers last season, registering seven goals and four assists in 47 appearances. His performances in Scotland enhanced his reputation, making him one of Tottenham’s most highly regarded young prospects.

However, Middlesbrough’s hopes of securing a loan deal appear to have suffered a blow.

Reports suggest Moore is attracting interest from several clubs and is currently prioritising a move to one of Europe’s top five leagues. If that preference remains unchanged, a switch to the Championship would appear unlikely at this stage.

While Middlesbrough have developed a positive relationship with Tottenham following the permanent signing of Will Lankshear, competition for Moore’s signature remains intense.

There is still a possibility the situation could change later in the transfer window if the teenager fails to secure his preferred destination, but for now Boro may have to look elsewhere.

Adding another wide player remains an important objective, particularly with Morgan Whittaker continuing to attract transfer interest. If Moore proves unattainable, Middlesbrough are expected to accelerate their pursuit of alternative targets before the window closes.
