Blackburn Rovers are waiting to discover the full extent of Mathias Jorgensen’s latest hamstring problem ahead of their clash with Sheffield United.

The forward returned from injury as a substitute on Saturday but was forced to deal with another hamstring issue during his appearance. Jorgensen underwent a scan on Monday and has already been ruled out of the Sheffield United fixture.

Sidnei Tavares is also set to miss the game after reporting ill on Monday. The midfielder has also been linked with a potential departure from Ewood Park.

Tony Mowbray confirmed the latest injury news, saying Jorgensen appeared to have aggravated his hamstring after coming off the bench. He added that Baradji and Kargbo remain sidelined, while Tavares’ illness means he will not be involved.

Mowbray expects the squad to become stronger over the next couple of weeks as several players move closer to returning.

The Blackburn boss is otherwise working with the same group and is expected to rotate his side, giving opportunities to players who have been on the fringes during the opening week of the season.

Aynsley Pears could replace the regular goalkeeper, while Ryan Alebiosu may be the only defender to retain his place. With Matty Litherland still unavailable, Hayden Carter and George Pratt are expected to form the centre-back partnership, with Yuri Ribeiro at left-back.

Jake Garrett could be handed a midfield opportunity alongside Adam Forshaw, with Tavares unavailable.

Jayden Fevrier is expected to feature in attack, while Axel Henriksson could also come into the starting XI after missing Saturday’s squad. Dapo Afolayan may complete the attacking midfield trio.

Yuki Ohashi is likely to lead the line after starting the campaign with appearances from the bench.

Predicted Blackburn Rovers XI: Pears; Alebiosu, Carter, Pratt, Ribeiro; Forshaw, Garrett; Fevrier, Henriksson, Afolayan; Ohashi.
