Ex-Rangers striker closing in on dream move to Bundesliga side
Former Rangers striker Cedric Itten is reportedly on the verge of an unexpected return to the Bundesliga, with Werder Bremen said to be preparing a move for the Swiss forward despite his recent relegation to Germany’s third tier.

The 29-year-old endured a difficult spell at Ibrox after arriving from St. Gallen in a £2.7 million transfer six years ago. Itten managed just six Scottish Premiership goals in 33 appearances for Rangers, although opportunities were limited, with only eight of those outings coming as starts.
Following his departure from Glasgow, the striker returned to Switzerland to join Young Boys in 2022 and later spent a season on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf in Bundesliga 2.
Despite suffering relegation recently, Itten’s career appears set for a major boost. Reports suggest the Swiss international — who has also earned a place in Switzerland’s squad for the upcoming World Cup — is now close to completing a surprise transfer to Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen.
The move would mark another opportunity for Itten to prove himself in Germany’s top division. He previously gained Bundesliga experience during a loan spell at Greuther Fürth while still contracted to Rangers, although that campaign ended in disappointment as the club suffered relegation.
A switch to Werder Bremen would represent a significant chance for the striker to revive his reputation at the highest level and continue his resurgence following an inconsistent period after leaving Rangers.
