Dion Sanderson and Luke Ayling react to Shane Duffy’s Derby County debut

Shane Duffy marked his first appearance for Derby County with a memorable victory over Bolton Wanderers, as the Rams secured only their second Championship win of the season to ease some of their relegation concerns.

The situation was becoming increasingly worrying for John Eustace’s side heading into the Bolton encounter, with another defeat potentially leaving them in an even more difficult position. However, Derby produced an impressive second-half comeback to claim all three points.

Duffy was handed his first start after remaining an unused substitute in Derby’s previous two matches. The experienced defender completed the full 90 minutes, making his 220th appearance in the Championship.

Despite going into the break trailing 1-0, the Rams turned things around after half-time and eventually secured a crucial 3-1 victory.

Luke Ayling and Dion Sanderson respond to Shane Duffy’s message

Following the important result, Duffy took to Instagram to celebrate his first outing in a Derby shirt.

The Republic of Ireland international shared a post reflecting on the victory, accompanied by the two-word message: “We’re back 🐏”

His update attracted attention from several Derby team-mates, including Dion Sanderson, who responded: “Just got duffied 👅👅👅”

Luke Ayling also reacted to the defender’s post, joining in the celebrations after the Rams’ much-needed victory. Midfielder David Ozoh was another Derby player to leave a response.

Duffy brings valuable experience to Derby County

The 34-year-old has enjoyed a lengthy career across English football, having developed through Everton’s academy before moving on to Blackburn Rovers and Brighton.

He played an important role in Brighton’s promotion to the Premier League before later experiencing Scottish football with Celtic.

Duffy subsequently joined Norwich City, where he made 87 appearances across three seasons.

His arrival at Pride Park on an initial two-month agreement reunites him with Eustace and gives Derby another experienced option at a crucial stage of their campaign.

After making an immediate contribution to a much-needed victory over Bolton, Duffy will hope to help the Rams build on that result and move further away from the relegation danger.
