Derby County dealt injury blow as John Eustace delivers Wrexham update
Derby County dealt major injury blow as John Eustace confirms fresh setback ahead of Wrexham clash
Derby County face another difficult test in the Championship this weekend as they prepare to welcome Wrexham, with John Eustace confirming a frustrating injury setback ahead of the encounter.
The Rams are chasing their first home victory of the season, but they will have to navigate a growing list of fitness problems, with Charlie Taylor expected to miss the next three to four weeks after suffering a hamstring injury.

The experienced left-back was forced off during Derby’s 1-1 draw against Burnley before the international break, and the latest update means Eustace will be without another important option for the coming fixtures.
Taylor’s absence leaves Derby particularly short at left-back. Craig Forsyth and Derry Murkin are already sidelined, meaning the manager has no recognised natural replacement available for Saturday’s meeting with Wrexham.
Taylor originally arrived at the club during the summer to provide experienced cover for Murkin. However, Murkin’s serious hamstring injury forced him into a much heavier workload than initially anticipated.
Speaking about the situation, Eustace explained that Taylor’s demanding run of appearances may have contributed to the setback.
“Charlie is going to be missing for the next three or four weeks,” the Derby boss confirmed.
He added that the injury was a significant hamstring problem and admitted the club had not expected Taylor to feature as regularly as he has in such a short period.
Unfortunately for Derby, the defensive concerns do not end there.
Centre-backs Eiran Cashin and Matt Clarke remain unavailable because of calf problems, leaving Sondre Langas and Dion Sanderson as the only available options to fill the central defensive positions.
Goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom is also out, while Patrick Agyemang continues his lengthy recovery after rupturing his Achilles tendon.
With several key players missing, Derby have been left with a challenging selection situation at a crucial point in their campaign.
Eustace was also asked whether the international break had given him time to assess the number of injuries affecting his squad. The manager suggested that many of the problems were caused by contact rather than muscular issues.
He acknowledged that the physical demands of the Championship, combined with the intensity and volume of matches, can take their toll on players.
The Derby boss also stressed the importance of recruiting footballers who are accustomed to the demanding nature of the division.
For now, Derby must find a way to cope with their depleted squad as Wrexham arrive this weekend. With their first home win of the season still the target, Eustace will be hoping his remaining players can step up despite the growing injury concerns.
