Gary Keown reveals what could see Danny Röhl sacked as shock comments emerge
Danny Röhl could be facing an uncertain future at Rangers F.C. if his side fail to deliver in crucial clashes against Heart of Midlothian F.C. and Celtic F.C..
That’s the view of journalist Gary Keown, who believes the ruthless nature of football could see Rangers’ hierarchy consider a managerial change if the title slips away.
The 2025–26 Scottish Premiership race has developed into a dramatic three-way battle, with Rangers, Celtic, and Hearts all in contention deep into the season. Röhl, appointed in October following a difficult spell under Russell Martin, has overseen a significant turnaround, guiding the club back into contention with a strong unbeaten run.
However, recent inconsistency has put that progress at risk. A damaging 3-2 defeat to Motherwell F.C. at Ibrox Stadiumhas left Rangers needing maximum points from their remaining fixtures to stay in the race.
A loss to Hearts could leave them trailing by seven points, effectively ending their title hopes. Even if they overcome that hurdle, a decisive trip to Parkhead looms shortly after—making it a defining period for Röhl and his team.
Keown argues that failure in these high-stakes matches could have serious consequences. He stressed that football is ultimately driven by results, suggesting that falling short in such pivotal games could lead to Röhl’s dismissal.
The journalist also highlighted concerns over some of Röhl’s recent comments, describing them as unsettling and adding further scrutiny to the manager’s position.
While Röhl has made clear progress since taking charge, the coming fixtures could ultimately determine whether he is the man to lead Rangers forward—or whether the club opts for a new direction.
