Danny Rohl responds to criticism over lack of Scottish players at Rangers F.C.
Danny Rohl has dismissed criticism over the lack of Scottish players in the Rangers F.C. squad, insisting success is determined by quality and consistency rather than nationality.
The debate intensified following Rangers’ recent defeat to Heart of Midlothian F.C., where all 16 players used by Rohl were non-Scottish. Club legend Ally McCoist was among those to question the absence of a stronger Scottish core within the squad.
However, Rohl made it clear he views the issue differently, stressing that his focus remains on players capable of delivering under pressure over a full 90 minutes.
The Rangers boss pointed to injuries and fitness concerns involving several important players, including Tuur Rommens and Ryan Kent, while also revealing the club has been carefully managing Mikey Moore in recent weeks.
Rohl admitted Rangers have fallen short in crucial moments during the title run-in but suggested small details and squad availability can make the difference during the decisive final weeks of a season.
The German coach also hinted another major rebuild could take place this summer as he continues shaping the squad in his image. He insisted the rebuilding process has been ongoing since his arrival and referenced lessons learned during his time in Munich, where he believes successful teams are defined by their ability to peak in April and May.
Rohl added that strong performances alone are not enough for Rangers, stressing the club’s expectations demand victories rather than simply playing well.
