Danny Rohl explains decision to leave Emmanuel Fernandez out of Rangers starting XI in Dundee win
Danny Rohl has explained why Emmanuel Fernandez was left out of the starting lineup for Rangers F.C.’s 4-2 victory over Dundee United F.C. following the international break.
The Rangers boss opted to pair John Souttar with Nasser Djiga in central defence, leaving Fernandez on the bench despite the defender having started five consecutive Premiership matches prior to the break.

Fernandez had recently returned from international duty, where he made his debut for Nigeria and even scored in his first start. However, Röhl highlighted the physical toll of travel and the strength of competition within his squad as key factors behind his decision.
Speaking after the match, Röhl explained that Fernandez’s recent international experience, combined with other available defensive options, influenced his selection.
He also emphasised the importance of competition within the squad, noting that the team’s convincing win justified his call.
The defender, who has scored seven goals in 29 appearances this season for club and country, will now look to regain his place as Rangers prepare for their upcoming clash with Falkirk.
