Charlie Adam delivers blunt verdict on Celtic Park pitch invasion aftermath
Former Scotland international Charlie Adam has offered a surprisingly balanced take on the fallout from the Celtic Park pitch invasion, speaking openly about the chaotic scenes that followed Celtic’s latest Scottish Premiership title win.
The dramatic 3-1 victory over Hearts confirmed another league championship for Celtic F.C., after which supporters poured onto the pitch in celebration. The reaction to the incident quickly sparked debate across Scottish football, with much of the focus centred on safety concerns and crowd control.

Adam, however, suggested the situation was more complicated than some reactions suggested. While he did not defend any unacceptable behaviour, he argued that the nature of the occasion made a pitch invasion almost impossible to prevent once the final whistle approached. He also questioned what practical steps officials could realistically have taken to restart or continue the match once supporters had entered the field, especially with the result effectively beyond doubt.
Speaking on No Tippy Tappy Football, Adam explained that moments like this are difficult to control, particularly when a title is secured in such emotional circumstances. He noted that once the third goal went in, the game was effectively over, making any attempt to regain order or resume play highly unrealistic.
He also drew a distinction between this incident and other more hostile pitch invasions in Scottish football, suggesting the context at Celtic Park was different given the celebratory nature of the occasion. While he felt authorities, including policing and stadium control, could have been better prepared, he emphasised that such scenes are often part of major title celebrations.
Adam acknowledged that incidents involving misconduct did occur and should not be dismissed, stressing that a small minority were responsible. He also pointed out that concerns raised by opponents and officials warranted investigation, including claims of inappropriate behaviour toward players and staff, with authorities looking into reports.
Ultimately, Adam’s view was that while the disorder should not be ignored, it came during a highly emotional moment for Celtic supporters after a season of intense scrutiny, and the scale of celebration was, in some sense, predictable given the significance of the achievement.
