Celtic eye shock £13m swoop for former Real Madrid striker as replacement for key star
Celtic eye ambitious move for former Real Madrid striker as Daizen Maeda replacement plan emerges
Celtic F.C. are stepping up their search for a new striker this summer amid growing expectations that Daizen Maeda could move on, with former Real Madrid CF forward Álvaro Rodríguez emerging as a serious target.

Maeda is believed to be keen on taking the next step in his career, with interest from the Premier League increasing, leaving Celtic searching for a forward capable of making an instant impact both domestically and in Europe.
Rodríguez, 21, has caught the eye since joining Elche CF permanently from Real Madrid last summer. The Uruguayan striker has shown strong hold-up play, aerial presence and an improving eye for goal during his time in La Liga.
The former Madrid Castilla talent has registered seven goals and five assists in 34 league appearances this season, sparking interest from clubs across Europe. Feyenoord, AFC Ajax and PSV Eindhoven have all been linked, but Celtic are now understood to have added him to their shortlist.
Celtic reportedly see Rodríguez as a player with major long-term potential, though finances could complicate any move. His valuation is believed to sit between €10m and €15m — potentially rising to around £13m — while Real Madrid are also said to hold a notable sell-on clause.
With spending expected across several areas this summer, Celtic are also considering more affordable alternatives. One player still firmly on the radar is Kasper Høgh of FK Bodø/Glimt, with interest revived after links earlier in the year.
Should Maeda depart, Celtic will face a major challenge replacing his energy, pressing and attacking output, making this a crucial transfer window as rivals Rangers F.C. and Heart of Midlothian F.C. continue strengthening.
