Burnley FC issue official response amid shirt sponsor controversy
Burnley have confirmed that their agreement with front-of-shirt sponsor Finotive has been terminated just before the start of the 2026/27 Championship campaign.
The Clarets initially revealed in July that the Cyprus-based trading platform would appear on the club’s new match shirts and training clothing throughout the season. The company describes itself as a global trading ecosystem.
Burnley had already used the new kits featuring Finotive during pre-season, as well as in their Carabao Cup meeting with Notts County last week. The sponsor had also been prominent across the club’s promotional material, including a social media campaign for the new away strip that reportedly reached 6.4 million users on X.
However, that partnership has now come to an end, with existing club partner Vertu Motors stepping in as Burnley’s front-of-shirt sponsor for the upcoming campaign.
In a statement, Burnley said they were disappointed that the agreement with Finotive had ended but insisted the club had acted quickly to safeguard its interests and those of its supporters.
The club also said the change would not disrupt preparations for the new season and promised to provide further details regarding existing replica shirts and arrangements for fans through its official channels.
Supporters who have already bought a Burnley shirt featuring the former sponsor will have three options available to them:
- Receive a full refund.
- Exchange the shirt for a new version carrying Vertu branding.
- Have Vertu’s logo added to their existing shirt free of charge.
The sponsorship change also means Burnley replica kits will temporarily be unavailable both online and from the Clarets Store. That includes the club shop on Sunday when Burnley host West Ham.
The sudden switch leaves Burnley needing to make rapid adjustments to their retail and commercial operations just as the new Championship season gets underway.
