Brendan Rodgers finally prepares to address Celtic departure

Brendan Rodgers is set to return to Glasgow next summer, and Celtic supporters will finally have the chance to hear directly from the former Hoops boss about his controversial departure.

Rodgers will appear at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on 14 June 2027 as part of a live show with A Celtic State of Mind host Paul John Dykes.

The former Celtic manager left his position in October 2025 after a dramatic end to his second spell at the club. His departure was followed by a public statement from major shareholder Dermot Desmond, who criticised Rodgers and described him as “divisive, misleading, and self-serving”.

Rodgers has not yet had a similar public platform to fully explain his side of what happened.

That could change when he returns to Glasgow.

Now managing in Saudi Arabia, Rodgers will have the opportunity to reflect on the circumstances surrounding his resignation and potentially address some of the questions that have remained unanswered since his exit.

Exactly how far he will go remains unclear.

The event has not confirmed the subjects that will be discussed, but it would be surprising if Rodgers’ departure from Celtic was not among the biggest talking points of the evening.

The breakdown between Rodgers and Desmond became public following the manager’s resignation, leaving supporters with plenty of questions about what happened behind the scenes.

More than 18 months will have passed by the time Rodgers walks onto the stage, potentially giving him greater distance from the events that brought his Celtic career to an abrupt end.

For Celtic fans, however, the main attraction could be hearing Rodgers finally give his own account of that turbulent period.

There will also be plenty of time to look back at the manager’s achievements during his two spells in Glasgow.

Rodgers remains one of the most successful Celtic managers of the modern era, and his return will inevitably bring memories of the trophies, big European nights and domestic dominance that defined much of his time at the club.

But it is the circumstances of his second departure that are likely to generate the most curiosity.
