Arne Engels admits Celtic frustration as ex-star’s warning comes back into focus
Former Celtic midfielder Arne Engels made an immediate impression at West Ham by scoring his first goal for the club during a dramatic afternoon that marked the beginning of Scott Parker’s tenure.
The Hammers appeared to be heading for a disastrous result after Cardiff City established a commanding 3-0 advantage, leaving the newly appointed manager furious with his team’s performance. Parker, who replaced Nuno Espirito Santo on Monday, made his frustration clear to the players before they emerged for the second half.

Engels revealed that there was considerable anger inside the dressing room at half-time, with both the players and their manager unhappy with what had unfolded during the opening 45 minutes.
The Belgian explained that everyone had to take a moment to reflect on their individual contributions before deciding that they could not allow the game to slip away from them.
He said the reaction from the squad demonstrated the character and determination needed to rescue the situation.
West Ham eventually responded with three second-half goals to secure a remarkable comeback and avoid defeat. Engels played an important role in the recovery, scoring the Hammers’ second goal to give them renewed hope.
The £22 million signing also impressed with his willingness to get forward and influence proceedings in attacking areas as West Ham desperately searched for an equaliser.
There have been suggestions that influential figures at the London Stadium want to see the 23-year-old operating in a more advanced position following his arrival from Celtic.
His display against Cardiff offered an encouraging indication of what he could provide further up the pitch, with his first West Ham goal providing an immediate return on Parker’s decision to give him an attacking role.
