Ally McCoist delivers verdict on new Rangers signing Lawrence Shankland
Ally McCoist says Rangers move for Lawrence Shankland was ‘overdue’
Ally McCoist believes Rangers F.C. have made an excellent signing in Lawrence Shankland — but says the move should have happened much sooner.
Shankland completed his long-awaited switch to Ibrox on a free transfer from Heart of Midlothian F.C., signing a two-year contract with the option of an additional season after a clause in his Tynecastle deal allowed an early exit.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Rangers legend McCoist described the transfer as “overdue”, arguing the club missed an opportunity by not signing the Scotland striker earlier.
McCoist suggested Rangers could have been celebrating a league title had Shankland arrived 18 months or two years ago, pointing to the striker’s proven goal record in Scottish football.
The former Ibrox favourite was full of praise for Shankland’s finishing ability, calling him the best natural finisher in the country and comparing him to former Rangers striker Kris Boyd.
McCoist also praised the 30-year-old’s professionalism following his exit from Hearts, highlighting the classy farewell message Shankland shared after leaving the Edinburgh club where he served as captain.
For Rangers, the signing represents an experienced addition with a proven scoring pedigree as the club aim to reclaim the Scottish Premiership title next season.
