Simon Jordan questions West Ham’s decision as Scott Parker nears Hammers job

West Ham United have decided to part ways with Nuno Espirito Santo following a disappointing run of results, but Simon Jordan believes the club’s situation was far from disastrous.

The Hammers’ 3-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion at the London Stadium on Saturday increased the pressure on Nuno, with the result marking their second consecutive home defeat in the Championship.

Nuno had remained in East London over the summer despite considerable uncertainty surrounding his future after West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season.

However, the club’s hierarchy have now turned their attention towards finding a successor, with reports suggesting that negotiations with former Burnley manager Scott Parker have progressed significantly.

West Ham had dropped to eighth place after 13 league matches, sitting four points behind Swansea City, who occupied the final automatic promotion position heading into the midweek fixtures.

Nuno’s spell in charge lasted just under 14 months after he replaced Graham Potter last September, following the club’s difficult start to the previous campaign.

Although West Ham lost important players, including Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville, during the summer transfer window, expectations remained high because of the quality still available within the squad.

Nuno managed 20 victories across his 53 matches in charge, but Jordan questioned whether the club had sufficient reason to make such a significant change at this stage of the season.

Speaking to Jim White, Jordan pointed to West Ham’s league position and their proximity to the summit as evidence that the situation was not beyond repair.

He said the Hammers were sixth points off the top rather than facing an insurmountable gap, adding that newly relegated clubs do not always dominate the Championship immediately.

Jordan also referenced Ipswich Town’s struggles after dropping out of the Premier League, arguing that teams coming down from the top flight can require time to adjust before finding consistent form.

His comments raise questions about whether West Ham have acted too quickly in dismissing Nuno, particularly with the promotion race still relatively open and a new manager potentially facing similar challenges.

With Scott Parker reportedly close to taking over, the pressure will now be on the former midfielder to deliver the results West Ham’s hierarchy expect and get their promotion campaign back on track.
