Rangers ‘Rolls Royce’ ruled out for three weeks as McInnes confirms hamstring injury
Rangers Suffer Ross McCrorie Injury Blow as Derek McInnes Confirms Three-Week Layoff
Rangers manager Derek McInnes has confirmed that Ross McCrorie will spend time on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury, providing a setback ahead of the club’s trip to Dundee.
The Gers travel to Dens Park on Saturday evening looking to return to the top of the Scottish Premiership table, with Celtic scheduled to face Hearts the following day.
McInnes has received some encouraging news regarding his squad, with Dujon Sterling available again after recovering from an illness that kept him out last week.
However, the Rangers boss also revealed that McCrorie has joined the club’s growing injury list, with the versatile 28-year-old facing a spell out of action.
The former Aberdeen player returned to Ibrox during the summer after spending five years away from the club. Although he has made six appearances across all competitions since his return, most of those outings have come from the bench.
McCrorie’s ability to operate in midfield and at full-back gives McInnes another useful option, making his absence an unwelcome development as Rangers prepare for a demanding run of fixtures.
The midfielder was previously praised by McInnes during their time together at Aberdeen, with the manager describing him as a “Rolls Royce of a player”.
Chermiti provides Rangers with more encouraging injury news
While McCrorie faces a spell on the sidelines, McInnes has offered a positive update on Youssef Chermiti’s rehabilitation.
The Rangers striker has been unavailable since sustaining a serious injury during the club’s first home match of the season around two months ago.
Chermiti was initially expected to miss approximately nine months, potentially ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.
However, McInnes has suggested that an earlier return cannot be completely dismissed, even though the forward still has considerable work ahead of him.
The Rangers manager said Chermiti was “doing really well”, but the club will be careful not to place unnecessary pressure on him to return before he is ready.
With Lawrence Shankland also unavailable, Rangers have had to rely on their remaining attacking options to provide goals in recent weeks.
Chermiti’s eventual return would offer McInnes another option up front, but the immediate priority remains ensuring the striker completes his recovery properly.
Which Rangers games will McCrorie miss?
McCrorie’s hamstring problem is expected to keep him out for around three weeks, leaving Rangers without his services for several important matches.
The midfielder is set to miss Saturday’s Premiership encounter with Dundee, alongside subsequent league fixtures against St Johnstone and Hearts.
He is also likely to be unavailable for Rangers’ Premier Sports Cup semi-final against Aberdeen, adding to McInnes’ selection concerns ahead of the cup tie.
If McCrorie progresses as hoped, a return for the league trip to St Mirren on 7 November could be possible.
However, if his recovery takes longer than anticipated, Rangers may have to wait until their meeting with Motherwell on 21 November, following the international break, to welcome him back.
For McInnes, the immediate task is to manage his available squad through a busy spell while keeping Rangers’ domestic ambitions on track.
Sterling’s return provides a timely boost, but McCrorie’s absence represents another setback for a side hoping to maintain its recent momentum.
