Hansa Rostock CFO hails financial impact of Ryan Naderi Rangers transfer

FC Hansa Rostock chief financial officer Roman Velke has described Ryan Naderi’s move to Rangers as a major financial boost for the German club.

Rangers made several attempts to sign the striker during the January transfer window before eventually securing a deal for a reported fee of more than €5.5 million.

Hansa had initially been reluctant to part with one of their most valuable players, but ultimately agreed to the transfer.

The decision has now proved hugely significant from a financial perspective.

Naderi transfer delivers record figures for Hansa

Hansa Rostock held their annual general meeting on Sunday, with the club’s financial performance and Naderi’s transfer among the subjects discussed.

Despite missing out on promotion to the second tier last season, Hansa enjoyed an exceptionally strong financial year.

The club finished fifth in the third tier, three points behind runners-up Energie Cottbus, but the sale of Naderi to Rangers provided a substantial boost to their accounts.

According to Neubrandenburger Zeitung, Hansa generated €44.2 million in turnover during the campaign, significantly exceeding their projected figure of €36.1 million.

They also recorded a profit of almost €2.7 million, compared with an initial forecast of €767,000.

Velke specifically highlighted Naderi’s transfer when explaining the club’s financial performance.

“All revenue-generating areas have developed very positively. This, combined with the rather exceptional transfer of Ryan Naderi that we were able to complete, has resulted in a very strong financial performance,” he said.

The CFO also revealed that Hansa sold their future receivables from Rangers to a bank, with the proceeds then being used to clear debt owed to Obotritia.

Rangers have also benefited from the deal

While Hansa have enjoyed a significant financial return, Rangers have also seen Naderi develop into an important player since his arrival at Ibrox.

The 23-year-old produced three goals and three assists in 11 appearances during the second half of last season.

His influence has increased this campaign, with Naderi already registering four goals and three assists from 11 matches under Derek McInnes.

His performances have also earned him attention at international level.

The Czech Republic are attempting to secure Naderi’s services, with assistant manager Radek Bejbl confirming that the Rangers forward is interested in representing the country.

There is still paperwork to be completed before he can potentially feature during the November international break.

Hansa accept sporting cost of selling Naderi

Hansa CEO Ronald Maul acknowledged that the club must separate the financial success of the season from the fact that their sporting ambitions were not achieved.

“It was a very good year for us. However, we must still distinguish between the fact that we didn’t achieve our sporting goals. But, in terms of the figures, it was a very positive financial year for us,” Maul explained.

Naderi’s statistics also underline how much his performances have improved.

He scored six goals and supplied two assists across 29 appearances during the 2024/25 season, averaging a goal every 310 minutes.

Last season, his overall output increased to 11 goals and five assists in 29 appearances, with a goal arriving every 165 minutes.

For Hansa, losing a player who could have helped their promotion ambitions was undoubtedly a sporting sacrifice.

But financially, the Rangers deal has delivered a major return.

For Rangers, meanwhile, Naderi’s continued improvement means the transfer is beginning to look increasingly significant from their own perspective, with the striker now firmly established as an important part of McInnes’ plans.
