Celtic unexpected European option that could change everything

Celtic have been urged to deliver an immediate response against Ferencvaros after their “unacceptable” 3-0 defeat to Rangers at Ibrox.

Martin O’Neill’s side begin their Europa League campaign at home this evening, with The Celtic Way team demanding a significant improvement following a disappointing display in the Old Firm clash.

Celtic are also set to have Camilo Duran available after the forward travelled to London to sort out a visa issue ahead of his upcoming international commitments with Colombia.

Speaking on The Celtic Way Morning Briefing, Aaron Chaudhry stressed the importance of Celtic reacting quickly rather than allowing Sunday’s result to derail their week.

“We need to look at the next game and make sure that we respond properly because it was unacceptable on Sunday, even from the management as well and the players on the pitch,” Chaudhry said.

“Tonight is make-or-break, effectively, in terms of how this week can go because you’ve got to go again on Sunday.”

Celtic face another meeting with Rangers at Celtic Park on Sunday, meaning their Europa League opener represents an opportunity to rebuild confidence before the next derby.

Host Josh McCafferty believes the Hoops need to rediscover the intensity that was missing at Ibrox, particularly when they have possession.

He said Celtic must show “the speed, the intent and the will to go forward and have no fear on the ball”.

McCafferty added that Rangers appeared to have a greater hunger during the 3-0 victory, something he believes Celtic supporters will not accept from their team.

The potential return of Duran could give O’Neill another option in attack, and Chaudhry would like to see the summer signing operate centrally against the Hungarian champions.

“I would love to see Duran through the middle again,” he said. “His pace and how direct he is just offers you a different dynamic for the team.”

With Celtic looking to put the Ibrox disappointment behind them, Duran’s ability to attack space and run directly at defenders could provide a different dimension as O’Neill looks for a response on the European stage.
