More frustration for Hatate as Burnley surrender lead at Wrexham

Reo Hatate endured another disappointing night as Burnley let a one-goal advantage slip away in a 1-1 draw with Wrexham.

The Lancashire club are still waiting for their first Championship victory of the season after six matches, leaving them joint-bottom of the table with just three points.

Hatate brought his four-and-a-half-year spell with Celtic to an end on transfer deadline day last week when he completed his move to Burnley. The midfielder made his first appearance for the club during Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat against Bristol City.

The former Celtic favourite began Tuesday night’s contest among the substitutes before being introduced in the 78th minute.

Burnley had looked on course for victory after Zeki Amdouni put them ahead in the 26th minute. However, their lead disappeared 10 minutes into the second half when Jacques Ekomie found the equaliser for Wrexham.

The result extends Burnley’s miserable league run, with the club having failed to record a league victory since October last year, stretching back to their time in the Premier League.

Hatate’s evening became even more frustrating in the closing stages when he received a yellow card for a late foul.

Elsewhere, Hatate’s former Celtic team-mate Arne Engels enjoyed a more positive night as West Ham moved to the top of the Championship with a 3-2 victory away to Bolton.

The £22million Belgium international played a role in West Ham’s second goal, delivering one of his trademark set-pieces for Konstantinos Mavropanos to convert.

The result lifted the Hammers above Swansea City on goal difference. Swansea, featuring former Celtic defenders Stephen Welsh and Adam Idah, slipped from top spot after suffering a 3-1 defeat at Southampton.

Preston also remain level with Burnley at the foot of the standings after losing 2-1 away to Watford.

Johnny Kenny, who completed a £3million transfer from Celtic to Preston last week, was handed a starting role but was taken off shortly after the hour mark, departing the pitch in the 66th minute.
