QPR Cool Interest in Liverpool Defender Luke Chambers as Blackburn and Portsmouth Could Benefit

Queens Park Rangers appear to have moved away from their interest in Liverpool left-back Luke Chambers, with manager Julien Stephan indicating that the club already has enough options in the position.

QPR had previously been linked with a move for the 22-year-old this summer, while Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers and Portsmouth have also emerged as potential destinations. Chambers is believed to be available for another move after spending the second half of last season on loan at Charlton Athletic.

The defender joined Charlton temporarily in January and went on to make 18 appearances in all competitions. His contribution helped the Addicks retain their Championship status under head coach Nathan Jones, although he finished the campaign without scoring and registered one assist.

Speaking about the possibility of QPR signing Chambers, Stephan suggested that the club’s recent recruitment has reduced the need for another left-back.

The QPR boss explained that Dennis Cirkin, who arrived last week, has strengthened his options alongside Boy Kemper. He also pointed to Kealey Adamson and Tariq Lamptey as players capable of operating on the left side of defence.

That situation could now give Blackburn and Portsmouth a clearer opportunity to pursue Chambers. Both clubs could still benefit from adding defensive reinforcements before the transfer window closes.

Chambers has spent his entire professional career with Liverpool, progressing through the club’s academy and representing the Reds at several youth levels. The England youth international has made four senior appearances for Liverpool so far.

The youngster has also gained valuable experience away from Anfield, with previous loan spells at Kilmarnock, Wigan Athletic and Charlton. His latest spell at Charlton saw him feature 18 times across all competitions, contributing one assist.

Another loan move could benefit Chambers

With competition for places at Liverpool likely to make regular first-team football difficult for Chambers this season, another loan spell in the EFL could provide him with an ideal opportunity to continue his development.

A move to QPR now appears less likely following Stephan’s comments, potentially leaving Blackburn Rovers and Portsmouth as the main Championship clubs capable of taking advantage of the situation.

Portsmouth, in particular, could use additional defensive cover after conceding three goals against QPR on the opening weekend. John Mousinho’s side will need to improve defensively if they are to enjoy a successful campaign.

There is also a degree of urgency surrounding Chambers’ future. His current Liverpool contract is due to expire at the end of June next year, meaning the club could risk losing him without a transfer fee if he does not sign a new deal or leave either this summer or during the January window.

For now, Chambers’ long-term future at Anfield remains uncertain, but another spell away from Liverpool could be the best route for him to secure consistent senior football.
