James Morrison impressed by Felix Horn Myhre’s selfless approach after West Brom debut

West Bromwich Albion manager James Morrison has praised new signing Felix Horn Myhre after the midfielder made an encouraging start to life at the club during Saturday’s EFL Cup victory over Rotherham United.

The 27-year-old arrived from Norwegian side Brann for around £2.5 million and wasted little time making an impression. Introduced at half-time, Horn Myhre needed only 10 minutes to score as the Baggies secured a convincing 4-1 win over the Millers.

However, it was not just his goal that caught Morrison’s attention. The Albion boss was particularly impressed by the midfielder’s willingness to play wherever the team requires him.

Before coming onto the pitch, Horn Myhre reportedly told Morrison that he was prepared to operate in any of the positions required of him and would simply focus on doing his job for the team.

That attitude has given Morrison another valuable option as competition for places increases within the squad.

Horn Myhre gives Morrison another midfield option

Morrison believes the Norwegian’s versatility could prove extremely useful throughout the campaign, although it also creates the kind of selection dilemma every manager welcomes.

Horn Myhre became West Brom’s sixth senior signing of the summer when he joined on a three-year contract. The club subsequently added another midfielder, French youngster Rabby Nzingoula, further increasing the competition in the centre of the pitch.

Horn Myhre’s arrival generated plenty of excitement among West Brom supporters because of his impressive goalscoring and creative record during his time in Bergen, while he has also gained international experience.

Despite scoring on his debut, the midfielder admitted he was still short of full sharpness following his move to England.

Morrison revealed that Horn Myhre had completed only two training sessions before the Rotherham match, with one taking place in a small group and the other being relatively light.

The Albion boss therefore expects the midfielder to become even more effective once he has had several weeks to train properly with his new teammates.

A perfect start for the new signing

Getting his first goal so quickly should also help Horn Myhre settle into his new surroundings.

Morrison had already planned to introduce him during the match, and the midfielder took full advantage of his opportunity by finding the net just minutes after coming onto the field.

His debut also saw him reunite with former Brann teammate Aune Heggebo, adding another familiar face to his new environment.

The Norwegian influence was noticeable among the travelling West Brom supporters too, with some fans attempting the famous Norwegian “Viking row” celebration in the away end.

Morrison welcomed the atmosphere, joking that Horn Myhre’s arrival had at least given the supporters a fresh song and a new theme to enjoy.

Overall, Horn Myhre’s debut offered plenty of encouragement. His immediate goal, positional flexibility and team-first mentality have already given Morrison another useful weapon as West Brom prepare for the demands of the new campaign.
