Anthony Joseph provides Celtic transfer update as Haissem Hassan move nears completion

Celtic are closing in on the signing of Haissem Hassan, with the winger having completed his medical ahead of his proposed move to Glasgow.

The Hoops are understood to have agreed a deal worth between £6 million and £9 million with Real Oviedo for the Egyptian international, who is set to become Celtic’s third signing of the summer.

Reports from Spain earlier in the week indicated that progress had finally been made after lengthy negotiations between the two clubs.

Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph then provided a further update on Tuesday night, offering Celtic supporters renewed confidence that the transfer is close to being completed.

Hassan is expected to put pen to paper on a four-year contract and could travel to Glasgow on Wednesday as Celtic work towards finalising the deal.

The club’s timing is particularly important, with Celtic due to submit their Champions League play-off squad to UEFA on Thursday. Completing the transfer before that deadline would give Brendan Rodgers the opportunity to include his new attacking option in the squad.

Hassan has not played competitive football since Egypt’s World Cup campaign came to an end. His national team were eliminated by Argentina in the knockout stages after an impressive run that saw the winger make an impact after missing all three group matches.

Egypt had previously defeated Australia on penalties before taking a 2-0 lead against Argentina, only to suffer a late collapse as their opponents scored three times to progress.

Despite his limited involvement in the group stage, Hassan’s performances in the knockout rounds helped raise his profile on the international stage.

His future at Real Oviedo also became uncertain after the Spanish side suffered relegation, making a return to the second tier appear unlikely for the 24-year-old.

Celtic now appear ready to provide him with the next opportunity in his career.

The immediate question will be how quickly Hassan can be integrated into Rodgers’ team.

Celtic face LASK in the first leg of their Champions League play-off tie on August 19. Throwing Hassan straight into the starting XI would represent a significant challenge given his lack of recent match action, although a place on the bench could be possible if the transfer is completed in time.

Celtic have no domestic fixture between the two legs, meaning Hassan could have a full week of training with his new teammates before the return fixture on August 25.

That could give Rodgers an opportunity to introduce him gradually, potentially making Hassan a valuable option for the second leg.

For now, Celtic supporters will be hoping the final paperwork is completed without any late complications, allowing Hassan to officially become the club’s latest summer arrival.
