West Ham Close in on Manor Solomon Deal After Agreement With Spurs

West Ham United have taken a major step towards signing Manor Solomon from Tottenham Hotspur after the two clubs reached an agreement in principle.

According to The Athletic, negotiations that had previously hit a stumbling block over the financial structure of the deal have now progressed, with both sides finding a way forward.

The transfer is expected to involve an initial £5 million payment, with another £2 million potentially payable through add-ons. Tottenham will also keep a 10 per cent sell-on percentage as part of the agreement.

Earlier talks had reportedly broken down because of disagreements over the bonus structure, particularly clauses connected to West Ham securing an immediate return to the Premier League. Those issues now appear to have been settled.

Solomon looking for a fresh start

The move could provide Solomon with an opportunity to revive his career after an underwhelming spell at Tottenham.

The 27-year-old has featured during Spurs’ pre-season preparations but has struggled to establish himself since joining the club on a free transfer in 2023. He has made just six competitive appearances for Tottenham, with his most recent outing coming as a substitute against Liverpool in September 2023.

A serious meniscus injury to his right knee subsequently disrupted his progress and limited his opportunities in north London.

Solomon demonstrated what he can offer in the Championship during a loan spell with Leeds United. He scored 10 league goals as Leeds secured the Championship title and promotion, highlighting his ability to make a significant attacking contribution at second-tier level.

His career has been less settled since then. Crystal Palace considered signing him during the 2025-26 season, but the winger instead joined Villarreal on loan before being recalled in January and subsequently sent to Fiorentina. He scored twice in 19 appearances for the Italian club.

Another important addition for West Ham

For West Ham, Solomon’s arrival would represent another significant piece of their squad rebuild following relegation from the Premier League.

Joel Veltman remains their other senior addition on a permanent basis after joining as a free agent, while Keiber Lamadrid’s temporary move has also been made permanent.

The proposed Solomon transfer would also mark the second significant deal between Tottenham and West Ham this summer. Earlier, Mateus Fernandes completed an £85 million move in the opposite direction.

West Ham have already made a positive start to competitive action, beating Portsmouth 3-1 in the Carabao Cup. Their attention will now switch to their Championship campaign, which begins with a trip to Burnley on August 16.

If the Solomon transfer is completed quickly, West Ham will have another experienced attacking option as they begin their bid to return to the Premier League at the first attempt.

A sensible move for Tottenham

From Tottenham’s perspective, allowing Solomon to leave appears to be a logical decision.

Although the winger possesses plenty of attacking ability and is capable of carrying the ball effectively and creating opportunities, injuries and a lack of consistent playing time prevented him from becoming an important figure under Spurs.

His successful period at Leeds demonstrated that he can still make a major impact, particularly in the Championship, and West Ham will hope that a settled environment can bring out his best qualities again.

Tottenham, meanwhile, will receive an immediate transfer fee, retain a percentage of any future sale and free up space within their squad.

For a player who never managed to establish himself as a regular at the club, the transfer represents a practical solution for all parties.

If Solomon performs well at West Ham, Tottenham supporters are unlikely to have many regrets. Instead, his departure could simply be viewed as an opportunity for both the player and the club to move forward.
