Celtic enter negotiations for former Real Madrid prospect in potential club-record move
Celtic have reportedly opened discussions over a blockbuster move for Elche striker Alvaro Rodriguez as Martin O’Neill looks to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the new season.
With Rangers and Hearts both facing managerial uncertainty, the Scottish champions have an opportunity to strengthen their grip on the Premiership. After being pushed all the way in last season’s title race, Celtic are keen to avoid a repeat and are already exploring several attacking targets.

Among those linked is Swiss-based forward Elias Filet, who struck 22 goals in the second tier last season, while Rodez winger Taïryk Arconte has also emerged as a player of interest.
However, Rodriguez may be the most ambitious target of all. According to reports from Italy, Celtic have made contact regarding the former Real Madrid prospect, who impressed during the 2025/26 campaign with seven goals and five assists for Elche.
The 21-year-old’s performances have also attracted interest from Bournemouth, setting up a potential transfer battle this summer. Any deal would likely require a major financial commitment, with Elche reportedly valuing the striker at around €20 million (£17 million).
Should Celtic meet that asking price, the move would eclipse the club’s current transfer record and represent one of the biggest signings in their history.
