Rangers are reportedly weighing up Steven Gerrard as a possible successor to Danny Rohl, who is already linked with a move away
Steven Gerrard could be in line for a return to Rangers this summer, with Danny Rohl’s future at Ibrox already the subject of exit speculation.
A section of the Rangers support had called for Rohl to be dismissed after the club fell short in the league title race again. However, the former Sheffield Wednesday manager was quickly backed to continue, with the board encouraged by signs of progress across the season.

Rangers have already strengthened their squad with the free signing of Lawrence Shankland, a long-time thorn in their side during his spell at Hearts. The club initially appeared ready to back Rohl heavily in the summer window, but that stance may now be shifting after reports emerged that Red Bull Salzburg are pushing to appoint the German coach.
Rohl is understood to be open to the move due to his previous connections within the Red Bull football network, potentially leaving Rangers facing a managerial decision sooner than expected. If he departs, attention is likely to turn quickly to possible replacements.
Gerrard’s name has naturally resurfaced, given his status as the last manager to deliver a league title at Ibrox. Since his exit, Rangers have struggled to reclaim domestic dominance, and speculation about a return for the former Liverpool captain has never fully gone away.
The 49ers-backed hierarchy could be forced to consider their options if Rohl leaves, with Gerrard once again emerging as a leading candidate. He has also been linked with roles in England, including Burnley, but a second spell in Glasgow may hold strong appeal if the opportunity arises.
Gerrard has previously addressed the idea of a Rangers return, revealing that talks were held but ultimately felt premature. Speaking last November, he said discussions with the club’s owners were “positive,” but the timing and conditions were not quite right for a comeback.
With circumstances potentially changing again this summer, the question of whether Gerrard returns to Ibrox may soon resurface once more.
