Celtic captain Callum McGregor breaks silence on Saudi speculation after winning the league
Callum McGregor has moved to shut down speculation surrounding his future at Celtic and reinforced his commitment to the club following their latest Scottish Premiership title triumph.
Reports in recent months had linked the Celtic captain with a potential move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Qadsiah, now managed by former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers. However, after lifting another league title with the Hoops, McGregor made it clear that his loyalty to the club should not be questioned.

Speaking after the dramatic title win, the 32-year-old midfielder delivered a strong response to the rumours, insisting that his long-standing dedication to Celtic speaks for itself.
“If anyone wants to question what I’m doing for the club, then they’re crazy,” McGregor said via The Herald. “I’ve been here my whole life.”
He went on to highlight the importance of leadership within the squad, especially during difficult periods of the season, suggesting that true character is revealed when challenges arise. McGregor urged supporters and observers to focus on celebrating the achievement before any discussions about the future.
Beyond addressing his personal situation, McGregor also reflected on Celtic’s campaign as a whole, acknowledging that while the club secured a fifth consecutive league title, the season had not been without its difficulties on and off the pitch.
Attention is now already turning toward what is expected to be a crucial summer transfer window, with the Celtic skipper stressing the importance of using the title win as a foundation for improvement rather than complacency.
He suggested that once the celebrations settle, the club must focus on strengthening the squad to ensure they are better prepared for the demands of the new season, particularly the Champions League qualifiers.
“The dust settles, we will try and get as much right as we can in the summer, which will hopefully put the club and the team in the best position for when the Champions League qualifiers come round,” he explained.
McGregor also emphasised the importance of European football to Celtic’s identity, noting that the club feels the absence of the Champions League deeply when it is not present. He added that while the Scottish Cup final still lies ahead, the focus must soon shift toward long-term planning and continued improvement.
“We start again in August, and we want to make sure we’re successful at that point as well,” he said, urging everyone at the club to maintain high standards as they prepare for another demanding campaign.
