Sheffield Wednesday F.C. have officially confirmed a significant squad reshuffle following the publication of their retained list, with eight players set to leave the club this summer as preparations begin for life in League One.

Among the biggest names departing Hillsborough is long-serving defender Dominic Iorfa, whose seven-and-a-half-year spell with the Owls is coming to an end. The 30-year-old centre-back, known for his pace and athleticism, made 222 appearances for Wednesday and played a key role across several memorable periods at the club. His exit signals the end of an era as the South Yorkshire outfit enters a fresh chapter under new ownership.

A major rebuild is expected at Hillsborough following relegation from the Championship and the recent takeover by Arise Capital Partners. While transfer restrictions remain a challenge, the Owls are expected to strengthen significantly as they aim to push for an immediate return to the second tier and mount a serious challenge for the League One title.

Joining Iorfa on the list of departures is midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah, whose time at the club was heavily disrupted by injuries. Winter signings Marvelous Nakamba and Zain Silcott-Duberry will also move on, while academy and fringe players Harry Evers, Junior Kamwa, Favour Onukwuli and Rio Shipston are all set to leave as Wednesday clear space in the squad for the summer rebuild.

There remains uncertainty surrounding the future of defender Max Lowe, with discussions ongoing over a possible new contract. The left-back has reportedly attracted interest from Championship clubs including Middlesbrough F.C. and Stoke City F.C., meaning Wednesday may yet face competition to keep him at Hillsborough.

Elsewhere, fresh contract offers have reportedly been placed on the table for Liam Cooper, Bruno Fernandes, Reece Johnson, Devlan Moses, Jack Phillips and Jarvis Thornton as the club weighs up its long-term plans. Young defenders Mackenzie Maltby and Gui Siqueira have also been invited to join pre-season training as they bid to impress the coaching staff ahead of the new campaign.

Wednesday have additionally activated extension clauses in the contracts of Svante Ingelsson, George Brown, Joe Emery, Cole McGhee, Denny Oliver, Liam Palmer, Logan Stretch and Ernie Weaver, ensuring further squad continuity. The club also confirmed that an option to extend Jamal Lowe’s stay for another season had already been triggered earlier in the campaign.

Meanwhile, loanees Murphy Cooper, Tayo Adaramola, Jaden Heskey, Joel Ndala and Jerry Yates have returned to their parent clubs following the end of their temporary spells. However, there could still be hope of reunions, with both Heskey and Yates already linked with potential returns to South Yorkshire, while Cooper and Adaramola have openly expressed an interest in wearing Wednesday colours again in the future.
