Social media post from Auston Trusty emerges following dramatic Celtic VAR incident
Auston Trusty has finally spoken out on social media after finding himself at the centre of the huge controversy surrounding Celtic F.C.’s dramatic late win over Motherwell F.C. at Fir Park.
The American defender played a key role in the decisive stoppage-time moment that has dominated football debate ever since Wednesday night’s chaotic title-race drama.
Trusty was involved in the incident that led to Celtic’s controversial late penalty after being caught by a stray elbow from Sam Nicholson before the Motherwell player was then judged to have handled the ball in the same sequence.
After a lengthy VAR review, the referee pointed to the spot, allowing Kelechi Iheanacho to hold his nerve and fire home the dramatic winner deep into stoppage time.
The decision immediately sparked outrage and debate across Scottish football, with pundits, supporters, and former players fiercely divided over whether the penalty should have been awarded.
Despite being at the heart of the controversy, Trusty chose not to directly address the handball drama in his social media response after the match.
Instead, the USMNT defender focused entirely on Celtic’s title push and the emotion of the occasion.
Posting on Instagram after the game, Trusty described the incredible scenes at Fir Park as “absolute cinema” before delivering a rallying cry to supporters by insisting there were still “two more finals to go.”
The post quickly gained traction among Celtic fans, many of whom praised the defender’s mentality after another dramatic night in the Premiership title race.
The chaos and emotion surrounding the victory have only strengthened the feeling among supporters that this season could become one of the club’s most memorable in recent years.
Despite a turbulent campaign filled with pressure, controversy, and intense scrutiny, Celtic remain on course for a domestic double — something captain Callum McGregor has already hinted would rank among the greatest achievements of his career.
Trusty himself was right in the middle of the wild celebrations after Iheanacho’s late penalty sparked jubilant scenes among the travelling Celtic support, with the defender embracing the “absolute cinema” atmosphere that continues to define the club’s dramatic title charge.
