Michael Skubala decides on Lincoln City exit as Bristol City continue to monitor situation
Michael Skubala is expected to remain at Lincoln City F.C. despite attracting strong interest from Bristol City F.C. ahead of the 2026-27 season.
The Robins had viewed the 43-year-old as a leading candidate to take charge at Ashton Gate, but they will now be forced to consider alternative options in their managerial search.
Skubala has earned widespread praise after guiding Lincoln to the League One title in remarkable fashion. His side collected an outstanding 103 points to secure promotion and are now preparing for the club’s first campaign in the second tier for more than six decades.
The former Leeds United F.C. coach has emerged as one of the most highly-rated young managers in the EFL and has been linked with several Championship vacancies in recent months. However, sources indicate he remains fully committed to the long-term project at the LNER Stadium and is eager to test himself in the Championship with the Imps.

Reports revealed earlier this week that Bristol City had shortlisted both Skubala and John Mousinho as potential replacements for departing boss Gerhard Struber. Interim manager Roy Hodgson is also expected to leave his role at the end of the season.
Despite Bristol City’s interest, Skubala is understood to have little desire to leave Lincoln at this stage, particularly after building such momentum with the club. The Robins endured another underwhelming Championship campaign, finishing 12th and once again falling short in their pursuit of Premier League football.
Lincoln, meanwhile, are already planning for life in the Championship and are reportedly among the clubs monitoring promising Sheffield Wednesday F.C. youngster Emery.
The 19-year-old made seven appearances during the 2025-26 campaign and is regarded as one of Wednesday’s brightest young talents. Although the Owls hope to keep hold of him following relegation to League One, several Championship sides are believed to be considering a move.
Lincoln are thought to be one of the clubs keen to offer the youngster a fresh opportunity as Skubala looks to strengthen his squad ahead of a challenging season in the second tier.
