Wrexham interest emerges as Terry Devlin finalises Portsmouth future plans

Portsmouth F.C. successfully secured their EFL Championship status after finishing 18th this season, and attention is now turning toward the summer transfer window and the future of key players like Terry Devlin.

Manager John Mousinho guided Pompey away from relegation danger with a strong late-season run, eventually guaranteeing survival before the final weekend. A 1-1 draw against Birmingham City F.C. at Fratton Park wrapped up the campaign, with Adrian Segecic opening the scoring before August Priske equalised for the visitors.

Although Portsmouth slipped from 16th to 18th in the table compared to last season, they still improved their overall points tally from 54 to 55. The club is now expected to strengthen the squad this summer as they look to push higher up the Championship standings next season.

One player attracting significant attention is Devlin, who has been linked with Wrexham A.F.C. after impressing throughout the campaign. However, the 22-year-old has downplayed speculation surrounding his future, insisting his focus is currently on resting and spending time with family before pre-season begins.

Devlin acknowledged that transfer rumours naturally follow players who perform well, but stressed that any interest would ultimately be handled by the club rather than himself. He also reaffirmed his commitment to Portsmouth, describing the club as a “fantastic place” and making it clear he expects to report back for pre-season preparations.

The Northern Ireland international has become a key figure under Mousinho, making 38 Championship appearances this season while contributing five goals and one assist. His performances have strengthened Portsmouth’s stance, with the club expected to demand a substantial fee if any side attempts to sign him.

Reports suggest Wrexham previously had a £2 million offer rejected during the January transfer window, and it is believed Portsmouth would require a significantly larger bid before considering a sale.

Mousinho is expected to see Devlin as an important part of his plans for next season as Pompey aim to build on their survival campaign and eventually challenge higher up the table.

After winning promotion from EFL League One in 2024, Portsmouth’s long-term ambition remains a return to the Premier League. For now, though, their attention is firmly fixed on a crucial summer rebuild ahead of the new season.
