Blackburn Rovers F.C. linked with League One midfielder, good enough for the step up?
Michael O’Neill may still be waiting to learn his long-term fate at Blackburn Rovers F.C., but behind the scenes, attention is already turning firmly toward the summer transfer window.
A crucial 3-1 victory over Sheffield United F.C. ensured Blackburn’s Championship survival — but it has done little to mask what has been an underwhelming campaign at Ewood Park.

With a final-day clash against relegated Leicester City F.C. still to come, the focus is now on ending the season on a high — and, more importantly, building a squad capable of avoiding another relegation scare.
Despite steady results since replacing Valérien Ismaël, O’Neill knows improvements are needed — and the recruitment team are already moving.
According to reports, Blackburn are plotting a fresh swoop for Stevenage F.C. midfielder Dan Phillips — a player they previously tracked in January and have continued to monitor closely.
The 25-year-old has been a standout performer in League One this season, playing a key role in Stevenage’s push for promotion with consistent displays in midfield. With Sondre Tronstad expected to depart this summer, Blackburn are actively searching for a new midfield leader — and Phillips has emerged as a prime target.
However, the situation is far from straightforward.
Phillips’ future could hinge on Stevenage’s promotion hopes. If Alex Revell guides his side into the Championship via the play-offs, the midfielder may be persuaded to stay and continue his rise with the club.
If not, Blackburn could be handed a major opportunity.
With his contract set to expire this summer, Phillips would be available on a free transfer — making him a potentially low-risk, high-reward signing for a Rovers side desperate to inject energy and leadership into their midfield.
The Trinidad and Tobago international has already shown glimpses of Championship-level ability earlier in his career, and his performances this season suggest he is ready for another shot at the second tier.
For Blackburn, this could be the kind of smart, opportunistic deal they have too often failed to execute in recent windows.
And with pressure mounting on the club’s ownership to show greater ambition, landing Phillips would send a clear message — that this time, they mean business
