Rangers gain advantage in Nasser Djiga race following Wolves’ Premier League drop

Rangers F.C. loanee Nasser Djiga initially arrived at Ibrox from Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. when the English side were still competing in the Premier League, but their situation has now changed following relegation.

Djiga joined Rangers on a straight loan deal for the remainder of the season, with Wolves believing their defensive options were strong enough to secure survival.

However, a disastrous campaign saw the club struggle from the outset, with a poor run of results under Vitor Pereira leaving them rooted to the bottom of the table. Matters worsened after Rob Edwards took charge, losing his opening seven matches, which ultimately sealed their fate.

With relegation now confirmed, Rangers have been handed a significant boost in their hopes of keeping Djiga beyond this season.

The 23-year-old centre-back has impressed during his time in Glasgow, and there is growing belief that a deal in the region of £8 million could be enough to secure his services permanently.

Danny Rohl is understood to be a strong admirer of the defender, while Djiga himself may be open to remaining at Ibrox given Wolves’ drop to the Championship.

Despite this, Rangers could face competition for his signature. Djiga’s former club, Red Star Belgrade, are reportedly interested in bringing him back and hold a sell-on clause that could give them a financial edge in negotiations.

At present, Rangers do not have an option to buy included in Djiga’s loan agreement, meaning any permanent move would require fresh discussions with Wolves in the summer. However, with the player seemingly settled in Glasgow, there is optimism that a deal could be explored.

Another possibility is that Djiga could return to Rangers on loan for a further season. Relegated Premier League clubs often rely on loaning out players while restructuring their squads and aiming for immediate promotion, especially with the financial backing of parachute payments.

For Rangers, securing Djiga—whether permanently or on another loan—would be seen as a major step in strengthening their defence ahead of the new campaign.
