Dejphon Chansiri criticised amid fresh Sheffield Wednesday F.C. takeover developments

Dejphon Chansiri continues to face heavy criticism despite no longer being in charge of Sheffield Wednesday F.C., with his legacy still casting a long shadow over the club’s current struggles.

The Owls’ season has been severely impacted by financial issues during Chansiri’s tenure, which led to administration and a points deduction that confirmed their relegation from the Championship to League One in February. Ongoing problems, including unpaid wages, also contributed to key departures last summer, notably that of former manager Danny Röhl.

Efforts to rebuild the club are now being led by David Storch and his Arise consortium, who are attempting to complete a takeover. However, complications remain, with the club set to begin next season with a further 15-point deduction after failing to meet creditor repayment thresholds.

Storch has publicly expressed frustration over the situation, revealing that attempts to resolve the issue — including proposals for independent arbitration and debt restructuring — have been rejected. A major stumbling block is the debt still owed to Chansiri, who has reportedly refused to engage in negotiations or reduce the amount.

Supporters have reacted angrily to the latest developments. Fan pundit Patrick McKenna delivered a scathing verdict, accusing Chansiri of continuing to damage the club even after his departure. He described the former owner’s management as chaotic and harmful, claiming his refusal to cooperate is prolonging Sheffield Wednesday’s difficulties.

Although the team showed some resilience with a goalless draw against promotion-bound Coventry City F.C., the broader picture remains bleak. With financial uncertainty, a looming points penalty, and takeover complications, the club’s path forward continues to be shaped by the fallout from Chansiri’s controversial reign.
